An open letter by Richard Reeves, Managing Director of The Association of Online Publishers, appears in the What’s New In Publishing site, which draws attention to and calls for action from the digital advertising industry to stop the growing practice of illegal data scraping.

With the decline in use of third-party cookies, advertising agencies have been turning to the unscrupulous gathering of publisher metadata and article text from open publishing domains, and using what is effectively online publishers’ intellectual property to build contextual audience segments for commercial gain.
